16th September 2012

Yesterday's St Leger will no doubt still be fresh in the mind of those interested in horse racing. Camelot's surprise defeat really was extraordinary. Although it may sound bitter to say 'if something was different, this would have happened', many will hold the view that a different set of circumstances and scenarios would have led to a different result. Others will staunchly argue the best horse won. Either way, yesterday's St Leger will go down in history and will certainly be remembered in my mind for a very long time to come. However, there is some absolutely cracking racing today around the world, something I will admit shows a chink in my knowledge as I'm not so good at transferring and comparing UK form to that of other horses from across the globe. There are though a few snippets that can help make this a profitable day if you are looking for some action. Yesterday's bet of the day, Dawn Approach, was imperious again and Quick Wit will have helped line the pockets also. On top of Encke's win, we can tell that the Godolphin boys are on fire, and it would take a brave man to take them on.

Orfevre will make his first start outside of Japan as favourite in anticipation for the upcoming Arc. He runs a pacemaker, but MEANDRE is one of France's pride and joys and does seem to have recovered some form.   Fiorente makes the long journey over the Channel but may not quite have the class to match the Arc horses and should run well in defeat, also back to his best. 6/4

The form pick here is clearly LAST TRAIN, whose recent run behind Imperial Monarch should mean he has the beating of the other horses in the field. Main Sequence was also behind that day. Saonois reappears after last seen winning the Prix Du Jockey Club, but that race has to be taken lightly due to the traffic problems that occurred in running. This small field should see Last Train take control. 2/1

Princess Highway was very impressive when winning the Ribblesdale this year, and on a line through The Fugue, arguably has the beating of SHARETA. However, the latter won last time out in the Yorkshire Oaks conceding 10 pounds to The Fugue and only has to give 8 pounds to Princess Highway today. Although that 6 length Ribblesdale victory may look enough, the key that day was the softer ground. The weather in France for today seems to be very warm and sunny, so the drying ground should be key to the Royer-Dupre mare's victory. Salomina is a terrifying proposition from the same yard that trains Danedream and could be anything. 7/2

Moonlight Cloud's run at Royal Ascot wasn't a surprise to connections and this speedy filly is certainly one to fear again. However FARHH finally faces a serious opportunity and should turn this into a real stamina test and find her out. Faced with the impossible in his two recent runs against the infallible Frankel, Farhh has reiterated his promise of earlier in the season and is taken to win here and continue the fine Godolphin run of form. I rate Moonlight Cloud similar to Society Rock in terms of ratings and Farhh has a few pounds on him. Even conceding 4 pounds to the mare, he should seal this. Caspar Netscher is the apple of his trainer's eye and will be no means disgrace himself, but Farhh should finally get the Group 1 honours he's been yearning for. 7/4

WILLING FOE's recent thrilling Ebor victory took a massive boost yesterday with Royal Diamond's Irish St Leger win in a dramatic finish again (and also boosted by Hurricane Higgins third at Doncaster earlier in the week). He is improving and should be able to take this in his stride. His form seems stronger than Vadamar's and Electrolyser who rate the main risks. That great staying hurdler of old, Kasbah Bliss, may just find this a touch on the fast side today with the young improver. (price currently unavailable *UPDATE - currently available around 4/1)

For those interested in racing in the Americas, CITYSCAPE has made an enormous journey to vie for an enormous prize at Woodbine in the 22.42. It's a long way to go to just take part and a big run is expected. (*UPDATE - available at around 2/1)

Good luck!
