7th November 2012

Yesterday's 3 selections resulted in 2 winners and a 2nd place, as well as the correct forecast in the Haldon Gold Cup. Although pleasing to call Cue Card's victory spot on, I was disappointed with Hinterland's performance and the run of the race. Chasing after Peckhamecho and getting into a battle with him for the lead ensured that by the time Theatre Guide cruised up towards the end of the race, our selection had nothing left in the tank and was beaten comprehensively. Another race that falls into the 'what if' category, I wouldn't let it put you off him as a long term prospect and it will be interesting to see him race next time where I'm sure he'll be waited with for much longer.

Onto today's selections and with some of the names that have raced the past couple of days we've been spoilt for choice and the racing for the next few days doesn't whet the appetite as much. Nevertheless here are the best selections.

Today also sees a competition on the Twitter page (@thehorsewhisp) for those of you following on there.

14.15 Fairyhouse

Following a successful week punting in Ireland, with 9 out of the last 10 Irish races tipped winning, this looks another good prospect with SEEFOOD catching the eye for the inform Dessie Hughes yard. He has already won over course and distance in an impressive manner conceding weight all around when showing no signs of slowing up. He'll have a harder task today as this isn't a field of no-hopers, but he should have enough for them. Sizing Gold makes his first appearance for 262 days and may get caught out by his race fit rival as well as by his jumping as he is yet to jump a fence under rules. Unlikely to be too far off technique-wise, there are too many doubts in my mind for him to be considered the favourite. Benevolent's form leaves little to be desired and Reafadda regularly comes up short. Both Shrapnel and Seriatim stay further than today's trip so should rank the main threats with the latter more dangerous as he seems to handle soft conditions better. 3/1 Boylesports ***Into 9/4 with Boylesports and Paddy Power; with continued price move would expect him to go off much shorter***

18.55 Kempton

The race may be named in honour of Richard Hughes' championship success, and he may be riding Sequence on behalf of the Queen, but I would be surprised to see him pass VIKING STORM who looks set to justify favouritism here and land the spoils. The selection has won 4 of his last 5 races including 3 at today's trip and 1 at a furlong further. He has been steadily climbing the handicap without looking like being found out anytime soon and deserves this step up to Listed company. He also has a win on the polytrack at Lingfield and his form has generally been franked elsewhere. He will be difficult to beat here. Modun continues to disappoint whilst Spring Of Fame will appreciate this step back up in distance, but whether he'll see out the 12 furlongs is debatable. Tappanappa is a course and distance winner but on a line through Tropical Beat and Fattsota has a bit to find with Hanagan's mount. Media Hype has performed poorly on this surface before, Nebula Hype returns to the flat after disappointing over hurdles so it could be left to Layline to chase home Dunlop's charge if he lines. Beaten by the selection before when conceding weight, he raced yesterday so his appearance is unlikely. 5/2 several

Good luck!
