Doncaster's Racing Post Trophy is the focus of the racing world this weekend, and is one of the highlights of this time of the year as the Flat season draws to a close. Camelot took the world by storm last year and confirmed his promise ahead of his classic season but it's likely to be a much more open affair this time around.
Here are today's best selections.
15.50 Pontefract
The day's highest class flat race is this interesting 7 runner affair with; interesting in the way that a couple of more experienced juveniles race against some very inexperienced types. Top Notch Tonto is the highest rated in the race, and his win on heavy ground at Ayr last time whilst conceding weight to the field is impressive and he warrants a second look. Oasis Cannes has failed to be out the top 2 in his last 6 races, and should also be fine in the conditions. However I prefer the look of WILLIE THE WHIPPER, especially at a price where an each way bet can make a small profit. He won well on debut over 6 furlongs in heavy ground, with everything that day indicating the step up in trip today would suit. He's due to come on for that debut run and he can improve to take this. Pearl Reward is the other unexposed type in with a big chance and showed he preferred soft ground when winning over course and distance last time out. 13/2 Betvictor, William Hill, 8.8 Betfair
Good luck!
